Abstract:

Primarily views of Samoa and the Sandwich Islands. Includes 7 watercolor portraits of indigenous peoples by G.E. Cooke (most signed and and dated 1847-1850), watercolor copies of views by [T. or J.?] Weld (ca. 1850-1856), an engraving of the Sandwich Islands, and a lithograph by Le Breton entitled Vue de San Francisco [a smaller variant of the view published as: San Francisco, vue prise d'un point eleve du cote Sud.].
Engravings of the Sandwich Islands, many apparently removed from editions of Cook's voyages. Also, many engravings relating to Tahiti and native costume (many bearing names of J. Grasset St. Sauveur and J. Laroque.) Three small (gouache?) paintings of the Hawaiian islands are also present - two of which relate to "Missionary Sisters" at Lahaina, 1865.
